About Valtor Roofing

Valtor Roofing is a roofing and building maintenance contractor in Edinburgh, built on doing the basics well. Our team is made up of roofers, stonemasons and rope access technicians, working on tenements, houses and commercial buildings across the city.

The basics, done well

Valtor was set up on a simple idea: do the basics well, every time. Clear communication, a scope the customer understands, turning up when we said we would, delivering what we quoted, and taking responsibility when something goes wrong.

It is surprising how often this is missed. Plenty of contractors can do the trade work but take little pride in how the job is run around it. Messages go unanswered, quotes change once work has started, start dates slip and nobody keeps a record of what was done. That is where most of the tension between customers and contractors starts, and it is usually what leads to problems with delivery and with the final invoice.

We take pride in getting those basics right. The value of a job should not decide how well it is managed: a £500 repair deserves the same clear scope, communication and record of work as a large commercial contract.

Roofing happens out of sight, so we show you the defect, explain the repair and photograph the finished work. You should not have to rely on trust when the evidence can be provided.

What we believe

Good workmanship should be the starting point, not the selling point.

Pride in the work means getting the basics right: communication, project delivery, accountability and a proper handover.

What you can expect from us

A written scope with every quote

What will be done, how it will be accessed and what is not included. The scope comes from a site visit or photos, depending on the job.

A named contact at each stage

The person who quotes the job, then the site lead once work starts. You know who to call and who is responsible.

No extra work without your approval

If we find something we did not expect, we stop, show you and agree the next step before carrying on.

Before and after photos on every job

However small the job. You see what we found and what we left behind.

Repair first, where repair makes sense

We find the cause before fixing the symptom, and recommend a repair, planned maintenance or replacement depending on what the building needs.

A clear close-out

Completion photos and any guarantee confirmed in writing, so you have a record of the work for owners, buyers or your own files.

Rope access as well as conventional roofing

Many defects on Edinburgh buildings are small and high up: slipped slates on a tenement roof, a blocked hopper head, loose stone on a cornice. Our rope access technicians reach the defect and carry out the repair themselves, so you are not paying for scaffolding to fix a few slates. Rope access work is supervised by an IRATA Level 3 technician.

Where scaffolding or powered access is the better option, such as a full re-slate or a long programme of work, we say so and price it that way. For offices, shops and managed buildings, see commercial rope access.

Who we work for

Property factors and managing agents

Inspections, planned maintenance and reactive repairs, with photo reports that can go straight to owners and quotes that can be shared between owners in a tenement.

Commercial property and facilities managers

Planned roof maintenance, rope access on occupied buildings and larger repair projects, planned around the people using the building.

Homeowners and tenement owners

Roof repairs, re-roofing, gutters and stonework, with the same quoting, communication and handover as our commercial work.

The experience behind the business

Valtor is run by people with a background in roofing and industrial rope access, including offshore. Between us we have delivered projects ranging from £1,000 repairs to contracts worth £3.5 million, in the UK and internationally across Asia, Africa and the Americas.

  • Pitched, slate and flat roofing, leadwork and gutters
  • Stonemasonry and lime work on traditional buildings
  • Industrial rope access, onshore and offshore
  • Building and asset inspection with written, photographed reports
  • Project management, planning and safety on contracts up to £3.5 million

On industrial and offshore projects, work is planned in detail, documented and checked before it is signed off. That is the approach we bring to everyday roofing in Edinburgh, whether the job is a single slipped slate or a fifteen-night rope access inspection at Jenners on Princes Street.

Our aim is to be a long-term maintenance contractor for homeowners, property managers and commercial clients, known as much for how our projects are managed as for the finished work.

We hold £5 million public liability and £5 million employer’s liability insurance. Certificates are available on request. You can see more of our work on our projects page.
